Québec
City
Québec
City’s gracious yet simple style continues to charm its visitors,
year after year. The city has everything it takes to please: a dramatic
setting on the St. Lawrence River, a rich architectural heritage, a
colourful past and a special joie de vivre that has characterized the
city for four centuries.
This natural fortress
dubbed the “Gibraltar
of America” is
where Samuel de Champlain first established a fur-trading post in 1608.
Historic Québec was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
It is also the only fortified city north of Mexico. Québec City
is today a busy seaport, an important service and research centre, a
cultural hot spot and the capital of the province of Québec.
In
this city rich in history, Québecers long ago mastered the art
of living well and having fun, whatever the weather. In summer, the
city overflows with festivals, with music and performance. Come February,
Québec
City explodes into action once more with the famed Carnaval, the largest
winter festival of its kind in the world.
